Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod
Who Are We?
Grace Lutheran Church of Durand, Michigan, is a member of the Wisconsin
Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Along with our synod we walk together
in a common confession of faith as we worship the Triune God: Father,
Son and Holy Spirit. Our united concern is the welfare and salvation of
the souls of all people. Therefore we are united in bringing the Good
News of Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection to the world. Our
congregations are located in all fifty states and in many foreign
countries. Together with our synod, we believe that the Bible is the
totally inspired Word of God, and that it is without error. The Bible is
our only authority for faith and life.
Why Are We Here?
The continuing purpose of Grace Lutheran Church as a gathering of
Christians, is to serve all people in God's world with the Gospel of
Jesus Christ on the basis of the Holy Scriptures. Jesus said,
"Go
into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation. Whoever
believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe
will be condemned" (Mark 16:15,16).
What Do We Do?
The primary objective of this congregation is to proclaim the Law and
the Gospel in our congregation, community and world, so that through
this Means of Grace the Holy Spirit may:
- Lead sinners to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ for
life and salvation (Luke 24:46-48).
- Strengthen believers in faith and godly living (Romans
10:17; Romans 12:1,2).
- Equip believers as disciples, stewards, witnesses, and
servants to share the Gospel and live their faith (Ephesians
4:11,12; Matthew 5:16).
What Do We Believe?
This We
Believe
We believe that the Bible is God's Word, that it is without error, and
that it is all that we need for our faith and life. This Word of God
shows all of us that by nature we are sinners and doomed to destruction;
and this Word of God shows all of us that Jesus lived the perfect life
and died as the substitute for all people. By the Good News of Jesus,
proclaimed in the Bible, people are brought to faith in Jesus for the
forgiveness of sins and for eternal life in heaven.
